Chemistry can be really hard to understand for anyone at any age. Just ask any adult to recount their high school chemistry course, and they often quip, “That wasn’t my thing.” Chemistry is a complex subject, integrating math, science, and critical thinking to solve problems in a way that is novel and challenging for a developing mind.
While many students may grasp the concepts at a surface level, comprehending the material in a manner that enables a student to perform well on the AP exam requires much more focused attention. It is in the one-on-one tutoring setting in which a student can wrestle out their working understanding while benefiting from teaching that is fit to their skill set and maturity level.
As a teacher, and especially in the tutoring context, my goal is to deliver the light-bulb moment. I strive to equip students with the confidence and courage to make a connection between the material and their application ability in order to not only learn chemistry but also apply it.
I love those moments when I see a student make that connection and achieve that look of satisfaction and accomplishment when a challenging concept is understood at a deeper level.
This is the heart and mission of Elemental Thinking.
Elemental is more than just a play on words - it’s how I approach learning. I work with your student to create the building blocks for success. Those building blocks are then put together to support an understanding of the more challenging aspects of high school and AP chemistry - just like atoms (elements) bond together to form complex molecules. See what I did there? That is elemental thinking, designed to help students succeed in all levels of Chemistry.
